How Students Can Know When HELB Upkeep Money Is Sent
Students who selected mobile money as their payment method should monitor the phone number linked to their HELB account for an SMS notification from SurePay.
The message confirms that their upkeep funds have been released. Students should check their account and payment details if they have not received a notification.
How to Access HELB Upkeep Money Through M-Pesa
Students whose upkeep funds are paid through M-Pesa can access their funds using the available mobile money channels.
These include the M-Pesa app and the USSD service accessed by dialling *642#, as indicated in the original announcement.
Students should follow the instructions provided through the official payment service and avoid sharing their PINs or account passwords with anyone claiming to help them access their money.
The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has listed seven batches of university students whose upkeep payments had been processed and disbursed as of October 9, 2026.
In an update shared on October 12, HELB asked students to check the latest batch numbers to establish whether their payments were included.
