Catherine Omanyo Staff Member Dies After Police Shooting in Busia

Busia Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo is grieving after the death of one of her staff members, Frederick Odiwour, also known as “Papa,” who died following a shooting incident involving a police officer in Busia.
In a statement shared on her official X account on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, Omanyo said she received the news with deep sadness. She confirmed that Odiwour later died from the injuries caused by the gunshot.
‘I have received with deep sorrow the news of the passing of my staff member, Frederick Odiwour (Papa). Papa succumbed to a bullet fired by a police officer in Busia. I am personally following up on the matter with the relevant authorities to ensure that the circumstances surrounding this incident are addressed and justice is pursued. To the family and friends of Papa, I extend my deepest condolences. May you find strength during this difficult time’ she wrote on X
Just a day before Odiwour’s death, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen reported that four people had lost their lives during the protests, while more than 30 others were injured.
Authorities are expected to continue investigating the shooting incident in Busia
