Tough Economy Pushes Young Women in Githurai Into Risky Survival Tactics
1 min read
A video recorded in Githurai and later shared online has caused mixed reactions among Kenyans on social media.
The clip shows several young women standing along busy streets during the day while allegedly trying to attract male pedestrians looking for short encounters.
Reports shared online claim that most of the women are young single mothers struggling to survive due to the high cost of living. The women were seen near bars and wines and spirits shops while wearing outfits meant to attract attention.
Some online reports further alleged that the women charge as little as Ksh 150 for the encounters, although the claims have not been independently verified.
The video has now sparked a heated debate online, with many Kenyans saying the situation reflects the difficult economic conditions currently affecting many families across the country.
Others, however, argued that moral values in society are slowly declining and called for better support systems for struggling youth and single mothers.
