CCTV Footage Emerges Capturing Moment Osotsi is Assaulted in Kisumu Hotel

Shocking CCTV footage has surfaced online showing the moment Godfrey Osotsi, the Vihiga Senator, was attacked inside a hotel in Kisumu.
The video, which is about four minutes long, started spreading widely on Wednesday, April 8. It shows the senator being forced to the ground inside what looks like a small café area, as several people surround him.
Osotsi, who can be identified by his striped shirt, is seen trying to protect himself while three to four attackers beat him at the same time. They slap and kick him repeatedly as he calls for help.
Blood can be seen on the white-tiled floor, showing how serious the attack was. The senator appears overpowered and unable to defend himself as the group continues the assault.
The attackers seem to be working together, blocking any chance for him to escape. One man dressed in dark clothes moves closer and appears to hit him directly, while another in white clothing stands nearby, preventing him from getting away.

At one point during the incident, the senator is dragged on the floor as the attack continues.
Restaurant staff later rushed in to help. Four waiters stepped in and placed themselves between the senator and the attackers, trying to stop the violence. Their actions attracted more people in the hotel, who joined in to protect Osotsi and push the attackers away.
After the incident, the senator was quickly moved out of Kisumu and airlifted to Nairobi for treatment. His exact condition has not yet been officially confirmed.
The attack has caused anger across the country, especially among political leaders. Many have strongly condemned the incident.
James Orengo, the Governor of Siaya, said the attack could be linked to efforts to stop the upcoming Linda Mwananchi rallies, where Senator Osotsi is expected to play a key role.
“This looks like a planned attempt to silence leaders speaking for the people,” Orengo said, adding that it follows another recent attack linked to political activities.
Babu Owino, the Embakasi East MP, also condemned the incident and blamed the Ministry of Interior for what he described as state-linked violence.
At the same time, Junet Mohamed, the Suna East MP, called for quick action and urged authorities to arrest those involved.
“I strongly condemn this attack. Those responsible must be arrested and taken to court immediately,” he said.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed that investigations are ongoing. Detectives are using the CCTV footage to track down the suspects.
According to the DCI, the reason behind the attack is still unknown, but officers are following important leads.
