DCI Boss Amin Reveals Where Raphael Tuju Was Hiding During Alleged Disappearance

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has challenged claims made by former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju regarding his alleged disappearance.

DCI Director Amin Mohamed stated that investigations conducted by detectives revealed that Tuju had not been abducted, but was instead hiding within his own residence during the entire period he was reported missing.

Speaking to the media on Monday, Amin explained that officers launched an investigation immediately after Tuju was reported missing on Saturday. However, the probe took a different turn after inconsistencies began to emerge.

According to the DCI boss, detectives faced difficulty accessing Tuju’s home in Karen after some family members reportedly restricted entry, raising suspicion and prompting a more careful and detailed investigation.

He noted that a team consisting of both uniformed officers and plainclothes detectives was deployed to secure the area as authorities sought legal clearance to proceed with a search.

“The premises were secured to preserve evidence and prevent any possible interference as officers worked on obtaining a search warrant,” Amin said.

Through forensic analysis and tracking of Tuju’s movements, investigators established that he had remained at his residence even after his mobile phone went off at around 6:16 pm on the day he was reported missing.

Amin further claimed that Tuju resurfaced only after realizing that detectives were close to uncovering the truth.

“When it became clear that investigations were narrowing down and the facts could no longer be concealed, he chose to reappear,” he stated.

The DCI boss criticized the former CS, accusing him of deliberately staging the disappearance in a move that misled the public and undermined trust in security agencies.

He emphasized that providing false information to authorities is a serious offence, confirming that Tuju had been taken to Karen Police Station to record a detailed statement.

Authorities are now seeking clarification on his whereabouts, the reports made by his family, and individuals who allegedly sheltered him in Kiambu.

On his part, Tuju maintained that he went into hiding after noticing suspicious individuals following him. He claimed the vehicle trailing him lacked a number plate and that he managed to evade it after turning onto Nandi Road.

He added that he later abandoned his car along Miotoni Lane in Karen before going into hiding.
