Govt Directs Private Hospitals to Submit Owners’ KRA PINs

The Ministry of Health, through the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC), has directed all private healthcare facilities in Kenya to update their ownership and registration records or face possible closure.
In a statement released on February 10, KMPDC CEO Dr. David G. Kariuki announced a nationwide verification exercise requiring all health facilities to submit up-to-date ownership, governance, and licensing documents.
“All health facilities are expected to cooperate fully with the Council during this exercise,” the notice stated.
The directive covers private hospitals, faith-based clinics, community health facilities, and non-governmental organisation (NGO) medical services. KMPDC emphasized that the move is part of its statutory role to regulate healthcare providers and maintain an accurate national register of medical and dental facilities.
Compliance Requirements by KMPDC
Facilities affected by the directive have been instructed to provide certified copies of all relevant documents via email to verification@kmpdc.go.ke no later than March 3, 2026. KMPDC also asked that the email subject line include both the facility name and registration number for proper identification.
The Council warned that failure to comply within the given timeframe will be considered a breach of licensing requirements, potentially resulting in regulatory action.
“Facilities that do not comply will face enforcement measures without further notice,” the statement added.
Documents Required for Verification
To ensure accurate records, all health facilities must submit the following:
-
Certificate of Incorporation, Business Name Registration Certificate, or Trust Deed (where applicable)
-
CR12 or official search showing current directors, trustees, or proprietors
-
Valid KMPDC-issued Facility Registration Certificate
-
National ID copies of all directors, trustees, or proprietors
-
KRA PIN certificates for all directors, trustees, or proprietors
-
One recent passport-sized photo for each director, trustee, or proprietor
KMPDC stressed that all listed documents are mandatory. Any facility that fails to submit them will be considered non-compliant, putting their license at risk.
