Govt Finally Reveals Date for KCSE Release

The government has finally given clarity on when the 2025 KCSE examination results will be released, following days of anxiety among candidates, parents, and teachers.

Speaking to the media, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) said the release of KCSE results is handled by the Ministry of Education, not the examination body itself. A KNEC official explained that the council does not announce exact release dates in advance.

“There is no need for tension. The KCSE results are released by the Education Cabinet Secretary. Even in previous years, we have never officially announced the exact date before release,” the official said.

According to long-standing tradition, KCSE results are usually announced within the first two weeks of January, often before January 15.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba confirmed that the ministry will stick to this tradition. Speaking on December 31, 2025, during the Omogusii Cultural Festival held at Kenyoro School Grounds in North Mugirango, Nyamira County, the CS assured candidates that the wait will not be long.

“The KCSE examination results will be released within the next two weeks. Traditionally, KCSE results are announced in January, and we are keeping to that tradition,” Ogamba said.

His remarks have eased fears that the results could be delayed beyond the usual timeline.

Govt Maintains Free Education Policy

Meanwhile, Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok has also addressed concerns surrounding free education. Speaking on January 1, the PS dismissed claims that the government had scrapped free primary and secondary education.

Bitok assured parents that the free primary education and free day secondary education policies remain in place under the Kenya Kwanza administration.

“The policy on free education has not changed. The government remains fully committed to supporting learners across the country,” he said.

However, the PS acknowledged that some public schools experienced delays in capitation funds, especially during the third term of the 2025 academic year. He said the government is working to ensure timely disbursement going forward.

As candidates wait for the official announcement, education officials continue to urge calm, insisting that the KCSE results will be released within the expected January timeline.
