Inside Jirongo’s Multimillion Shilling Farm in Uasin Gishu Set for Auction Days After His Death
Former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo, a politician widely remembered for his role in the YK 92 scandal that helped KANU cling to power after Kenya introduced multi-party democracy, is back in headlines — this time posthumously.
Jirongo, often described as outspoken and controversial, struggled politically after KANU lost power in 2002. His financial troubles caught up with him over the years, culminating in a declaration of bankruptcy in 2017.
One of his most valuable assets, a 103-acre farm in Chepkoilel, Uasin Gishu, is now set to be auctioned to recover a massive debt of Sh495 million owed to the now-collapsed Dubai Bank. The farm includes a salt-processing factory and was registered under Kuza and Allied Ltd, a company wholly owned by Jirongo.

The property was initially sold through the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) for Sh53 million, and the first auction set a reserve price of Sh70 million, which valued each acre at roughly Sh680,000. Eventually, the farm was acquired by Ninja Transporters.
Jirongo had recently tried to contest the CBK’s decision to place his company under receivership, aiming to block the debt recovery. However, his challenge was unsuccessful.
The upcoming auction, coming just days after Jirongo’s passing, highlights the scale of the late politician’s financial troubles and the ongoing legal and financial battles surrounding his estate.
