KUCCPS Releases New Degree Cut-Off Points and Course Requirements for 2026

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has updated its online portal with new degree cut-off points and minimum subject requirements ahead of the 2026 university application cycle.

The update is crucial for 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates, as it will guide them in selecting degree programmes once the application window officially opens.

What Has Been Updated

A spot check confirms that KUCCPS has uploaded:

  • Revised cluster cut-off points
  • Full list of degree programmes
  • Institution names and programme codes
  • Minimum subject requirements for each course

The system categorises all courses into 20 clusters, depending on competitiveness, demand, and available university slots.

Most Competitive and Popular Clusters

According to the latest update:

  • Cluster 3 (Social Sciences, Media, and Arts) has the widest variety of programme options
  • Cluster 1 (Law) remains highly competitive with limited slots
  • Cluster 5 (Engineering) offers many technical course options
  • Cluster 2 (Business-related courses) continues to attract a large number of applicants
  • Cluster 15 (Agriculture and Environmental Sciences) also provides a wide selection of programmes

Key Insight on Cut-Off Points

Cut-off points are not the same across all universities. Instead, they vary depending on:

  • Institution capacity
  • Course demand
  • Available slots

For example, Moi University currently shows some of the lowest cut-off points among public universities for:

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery – 42.066
  • Law – 33.699

This means students have a better chance of placement in certain institutions compared to others offering the same course.

How to Access the KUCCPS Portal

Students can log in to the KUCCPS portal using:

  • KCSE Index Number
  • KCSE Year
  • KCPE Index Number (as password)

Once logged in:

  1. Navigate to “All Programmes”
  2. Browse or filter courses based on interest
  3. Review requirements carefully before selection

What Applicants Should Do Next

With the application window expected to open soon, candidates are advised to:

  • Review cluster cut-off points carefully
  • Compare requirements across different universities
  • Choose courses strategically to increase placement chances

Early preparation and informed choices will play a key role in securing placement into preferred degree programmes.
