Former nominated senator Millicent Omanga has hinted at a new political direction after appearing publicly with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, sparking speculation about a possible alliance ahead of the 2027 general election.
Omanga made the remarks during a Kikuyu traditional dowry ceremony (ruracio) held in the Mt Kenya region on Saturday, February 7, 2026. The event brought together political leaders, community members, and guests, with Gachagua introducing her to the audience.
In her speech, Omanga thanked Mt Kenya residents for supporting her during the 2022 elections, noting that the community played a key role in her political journey.
She later shifted her tone to politics, openly expressing her intention to remain active in the 2027 race. Her remarks suggested that she is preparing for another political contest and expanding her support base beyond Nairobi.
Omanga also highlighted how different political leaders are mobilising supporters across regions, pointing to growing alliances between communities in Mt Kenya, Eastern Kenya, and other parts of the country. Her comments reflected a broader push for unity among various political groups as the next election approaches.
Positioning herself as a champion for grassroots development and women in Nairobi, Omanga reaffirmed her ambition to vie for the Nairobi Woman Representative seat. She portrayed herself as a leader focused on community projects and women’s empowerment.

During the event, Omanga appeared to criticise the current administration over economic and governance issues, suggesting dissatisfaction with how public resources are managed. Although she did not directly name the State House, her remarks implied concerns about leadership and accountability.
After the ceremony, Omanga shared photos from the event on social media, where she appeared alongside Gachagua. Her post celebrated culture, unity, and community, further fuelling debate about her political future.
The public appearance and her recent statements have intensified speculation about her 2027 plans. Omanga has previously declared her interest in the Nairobi Woman Representative position and recently asked Kenyans to suggest which political party she should join.
Once a strong supporter of President William Ruto and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Omanga’s latest comments suggest she may be drifting towards opposition alliances as the political landscape begins to shift ahead of the next election.
Despite losing her 2022 bid, Omanga has remained active in public life. She previously served as Chief Administrative Secretary in the Ministry of Interior before the position was scrapped. She has also held board positions in key institutions, including the Nairobi River Water Board and the Kenya Shipyards Commission.
Through frequent social media engagement and public appearances, Omanga continues to shape political conversations, positioning herself as a notable figure in Nairobi politics as the 2027 elections draw closer.
