President William Ruto has nominated Bishop Kepha Nyamweya Omae to serve as the new Chairperson of the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), pending approval by Parliament.
The announcement was made on Friday, April 10, by Felix Koskei, who confirmed that the National Assembly has already been informed to begin the vetting process.
According to Koskei, the nominations were made after recommendations from a special selection panel tasked with identifying qualified candidates for the commission.
The President also nominated seven individuals to serve as members of the NCIC. They include Josephine Kirion Eragae, Joseph K. Nguyo, Jackson Swadi Kedogo, Samuel Mwachiro Mwawasi, Irene Chepoisho Tulel, Hassan Billow Ahmed, and Jerusah Mwaathime Michael.
Koskei noted that the commission plays an important role in promoting unity, fighting hate speech, and ensuring peaceful coexistence among Kenyans. He urged Parliament to fast-track the approval process due to the importance of the commission’s work.
These appointments come at a time when political tensions are rising ahead of the 2027 general elections, with leaders exchanging sharp statements. The NCIC is expected to help reduce such tensions and promote national unity.
Bishop Nyamweya is a senior pastor at Liberty Christian Center and an ordained minister under the Redeemed Gospel Church. He also serves as the presiding bishop of the church.
One of the nominees, Josephine Kirion Eragae, currently serves as the Director of the International Development Partnership Coordination Unit in the Office of the Deputy President. She has previously worked as the County Executive Committee Member for Education and Sports in Isiolo County.
If approved, Nyamweya and his team will take over from Samuel Kobia, whose six-year term ended in November 2025.
The NCIC is responsible for promoting national unity, equal opportunities, and peaceful living among Kenya’s diverse communities.
