Residents of Mombasa and social media users across Kenya were left surprised over the weekend after a rare Tesla Cybertruck was seen driving through several parts of the coastal city.
The futuristic electric pickup quickly became a talking point after videos and photos surfaced online showing the grey, angular vehicle cruising through Mombasa streets and attracting large crowds of curious onlookers.

Rare Cybertruck Draws Crowds in Nyali
One widely shared clip showed the Cybertruck stopping to recharge at City Mall in Nyali, where passersby gathered to take photos and record videos. Many Kenyans online questioned who owned the expensive vehicle and how it had made its way into the country.
It has now emerged that the Cybertruck belongs to Berni and Alex, two international travelers behind Cyberlocos, a global road expedition focused on long-distance electric vehicle travel.
The vehicle is believed to be the first Tesla Cybertruck publicly spotted in Kenya.
Shipped from Dubai to Mombasa
The Cyberlocos team confirmed that the Cybertruck was shipped to Kenya from Dubai, arriving at the Port of Mombasa after more than a month in transit.
In a video shared on their social media pages, the duo documented the moment the vehicle was removed from a shipping container at the port.
“We waited for more than a month. We sent the Cybertruck from Dubai all the way to Mombasa, Kenya, and this is the moment when we are driving it out,” they said.
Photos taken at the port show the travelers posing with port officials as the electric pickup was officially released and driven onto Kenyan roads.
Beginning Their African Journey
Berni and Alex announced their arrival in Kenya on January 10, 2026, marking their entry into Africa as part of a much larger journey.
“A new year, a new continent, a new part of this insane adventure… Africa,” they wrote in a Facebook post shared from Mombasa.
Kenya serves as the starting point for their East African leg.
Chasing a Guinness World Record
Cyberlocos is a round-the-world expedition aiming to set a Guinness World Record for the most countries visited using a single electric vehicle.
According to the travelers, their goal is to visit more than 80 countries by 2026 while documenting the challenges of electric mobility across diverse terrains and regions with limited charging infrastructure.
Their journey has already covered large parts of Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East, and Asia, including Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, the UAE, and several Central Asian countries.
While in Kenya, the duo says they are focused on experiencing local culture, food, and landscapes, while also highlighting the realities of electric vehicle travel in Africa.
They regularly share updates, travel vlogs, and behind-the-scenes content on YouTube and other social media platforms, where their adventure has attracted millions of views and a growing global audience.
