A family in Kibera is crying for justice after their relative was allegedly attacked and badly burned during an argument linked to politics and support for President William Ruto.
Maureen Masili is currently receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital after suffering serious burns on different parts of her body.
The incident reportedly happened on Monday, May 18, during protests over the rising fuel prices in Nairobi and other parts of the country.
According to reports, the disagreement started after a political argument connected to the “Tutam” slogan, which is associated with support for President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking from her hospital bed, Maureen said the political disagreement is what led to the attack.
“It is the issue of ‘Tutam’ that brought me here,” she said.

Her sister, Lilian Kakuli, claimed the suspect became angry after seeing Maureen support the government at a time when many Kenyans were protesting against the high cost of fuel and living.
The family said the suspect allegedly went to a nearby food kiosk, picked hot maragwe soup, and poured it on Maureen, leaving her with painful injuries.
The matter was later reported at Kibera Police Station, although no arrest had been made by the time of reporting.
According to the family, doctors said Maureen suffered burns on her chest, stomach, thighs, and private parts.
Her brother, Franklin Masili, called on authorities to act quickly and ensure justice is served.
He said it was painful to see someone attacked in such a cruel manner because of political differences.
Police have confirmed that investigations into the incident are ongoing, with detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations handling the case.
The incident has also raised fresh concerns over political intolerance as the country slowly prepares for the 2027 General Election.
The attack comes only weeks after another shocking incident involving gospel musician Rachel Wandeto, who died after suffering severe burns in Nairobi in a separate case that also attracted national attention.
