27-Year-Old Man Refuses to Work, Sues Parents for Being Born Without Consent

A 27-year-old man from Mumbai, India, has sparked worldwide debate after declaring he will refuse to work and threatening to take legal action against his parents for bringing him into the world without his consent.
Raphael Samuel, a businessman, has taken a public stand aligned with a controversial philosophy called anti-natalism—the belief that life brings unavoidable suffering and that procreation should be carefully questioned.
His unusual story first gained attention when he posted a YouTube video explaining his position. Raphael argued that since no one consents to being born, they should not be expected to work or contribute to society as if they had agreed to life.
“Everyone should understand that we are born without consent,” he said. “We owe our parents nothing. If we didn’t choose to be born, we should be cared for throughout our lives.”
Anti-natalism, the philosophy behind Raphael’s claims, questions the ethics of bringing new life into a world filled with pain, inequality, and hardship. Supporters argue that the act of being born is imposed on individuals without their agreement.
Taking this idea further, Raphael claims that parents should provide lifelong support to their children—an argument many critics call unrealistic and legally unsupported.
In interviews, Raphael admitted it’s impossible to obtain consent before birth, but he insists that acknowledging this lack of consent is crucial for society to rethink ideas about responsibility, purpose, and life itself.
His statements have sparked heated discussions online. Some praise him for bravely questioning societal norms, while others dismiss his position as impractical or self-centered.
Despite the controversy, Raphael emphasized that his aim is not to harm his parents. His mother, a lawyer like his father, expressed disbelief at his claims, saying that it would be impossible for her to seek his consent before birth—a remark that underscores the philosophical, rather than legal, nature of his protest.
