A past social media post by Rigathi Gachagua has resurfaced online, drawing fresh attention amid the ongoing political tension with William Ruto.
The renewed interest comes shortly after a public exchange between the two leaders, where the President accused his former deputy of being linked to the death of a young woman. While the President did not directly mention any name, social media users have connected the claims to a past case involving Maureen Kinyua.
Records show that on May 24, 2019, Gachagua—then serving as Mathira Member of Parliament—announced the death of Maureen Kinyua through a social media post. According to his statement at the time, she worked as a secretary to the Ruguru Ward MCA and was one of his strong supporters.
In the post, Gachagua expressed shock over her sudden death, stating that she had been involved in a tragic road accident.
“I am in shock following the tragic death of Maureen Kinyua, the Secretary of Ruguru Ward MCA, and one of my most loyal supporters, in a road accident,” he wrote.
He further called on authorities to investigate the incident, alleging that the driver responsible had fled the scene after knocking her down. He also promised to push for justice on behalf of the family.
“I have asked the police to trace and arrest the driver who knocked her down and escaped. I will do everything possible to ensure justice is served,” he added.

Following recent remarks by William Ruto, the old post has gained new attention online, with many Kenyans revisiting the circumstances surrounding her death.
Kimani Ichung’wah, the Majority Leader, also weighed in on the matter with a strong statement, further fueling online debate.
The developments come at a time when political tensions between Rigathi Gachagua and William Ruto continue to escalate, with both sides exchanging sharp remarks in public.
