Gaucho Appointed to Mama Lucy Hospital Board By Nairobi Governor Sakaja

Youth leader Calvince Okoth, popularly known as Gaucho, has thanked Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja and President William Ruto after being appointed as a member of the Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital Board.

Speaking after the appointment, Gaucho said he was deeply honoured and grateful for the trust shown in him. He described the new role as an important step in his leadership journey and a major turning point in his life.

Gaucho said the appointment shows that the leadership believes in his ability to serve the people and contribute positively to public service.

He specifically thanked Governor Johnson Sakaja for giving him the opportunity, saying the governor’s confidence in him has opened a new chapter in his life.

He also expressed gratitude to President William Ruto, linking the appointment to the government’s wider development agenda and youth empowerment efforts.

The outspoken youth leader also appreciated the support he has received from the family of Raila Odinga, saying they have believed in him for many years and stood with him long before this appointment.

According to Gaucho, this achievement is not only personal but also belongs to the many young people from the grassroots who have supported him throughout his journey.

He dedicated the appointment to “Wanaghetto”, saying it is proof that young people from humble backgrounds can rise to leadership positions.

Gaucho encouraged the youth to remain focused, united and disciplined, urging them never to lose hope despite the challenges they face.

He said his appointment is a true reflection of the Bottom-Up vision, showing that anyone can rise through determination and hard work.

The youth leader further urged young people to keep faith in God and remain loyal to the right course in life.

To inspire the youth, he quoted 1 Timothy 4:12, which encourages young people not to be looked down upon because of their age but instead to set a good example in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity.

His appointment now places him in a key governance role at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, one of Nairobi’s major public hospitals.

The appointment comes as Nairobi County continues to restructure leadership boards across different public health institutions.

According to Gazette Notice No. 5733, the County Executive Committee Member for Health appointed new board members to serve in various Level 4 and Level 5 hospital boards for a period of three years starting from April 16, 2026.

The changes are part of broader reforms aimed at improving oversight, service delivery and financial management in Nairobi’s public hospitals.
