NYOTA OJE Beneficiaries Told to Reselect Skills After Receiving Ksh 6,000 Monthly Stipend

The government has asked thousands of young people who finished training under the NYOTA Fund to go back and choose their skills again.
In a notice released on Thursday, April 30, the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) programme said the change will affect beneficiaries in 13 counties across the country.
The directive targets youths under Lot 1 and Lot 2 who had already completed the Socio-Emotional Skills Development (SESD) training.
According to the notice, these beneficiaries should now revise their selected skills and wait for further instructions through SMS on their phones.
“Lot 1 and Lot 2 beneficiaries who have completed SESD training now have a chance to update their skill choices,” the notice said.

Counties affected by this update include Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, and Homa Bay. Others are Kisii, Nyamira, Bungoma, Busia, Kakamega, Kisumu, Migori, Siaya, and Vihiga.
To update their skills, beneficiaries are required to dial *254#, choose the OJE programme, and follow the steps to revise their selection.
After completing the process, they should wait for an official SMS with the next steps.
NYOTA explained that allowing beneficiaries to reselect skills will help them choose courses that match current job opportunities. This is expected to improve their chances of getting jobs and performing better at work.
The programme also aims to reduce the gap between the skills young people have and what employers are looking for in the job market.
This announcement comes shortly after the youths completed the OJE training programme, which is designed to prepare them for employment.
During the six-month training, each beneficiary received a monthly stipend of Ksh 6,000.
The On-the-Job Experience (OJE) programme targets more than 90,000 youths aged between 18 and 29 years across Kenya.
It offers practical training, mentorship, certification, and hands-on experience to help young people become job-ready.
The OJE programme is part of a larger government plan worth Ksh 33 billion, which aims to support over 800,000 vulnerable youths with skills, funding, and mentorship over the next five years.
