Former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has claimed that President William Ruto can win the 2027 General Election even without strong support from the Mt Kenya region.

Kuria said Ruto would still be in a strong position if he managed to get only a small percentage of votes from the region.

According to Kuria, getting about 13% of the Mt Kenya vote would already be a major political gain for Ruto.

He went further to claim that his projections show Ruto could be re-elected even if he received no votes from Mt Kenya.

“In my projection, the President is going to be reelected even without a single vote from Mt Kenya region,” Kuria said.

His remarks come at a time when politics in Mt Kenya has become increasingly heated, with some leaders linked to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua accusing the Ruto administration of neglecting the region.

Kuria also criticised the opposition, saying the different parties and leaders do not have a strong common political ideology.

He argued that some politicians in the opposition are mainly interested in using the alliance to advance their own political ambitions.

Kuria backs Ruto’s choice of running mate

Kuria also said President Ruto should be allowed to choose his own running mate for the 2027 election.

He said regional leaders should not pressure the President into selecting a particular person.

Kuria added that he would support whoever Ruto chooses to run alongside him.

The issue of Ruto’s running mate is expected to become a major political debate as parties and regional leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
