Moses Kuria Reveals Govt Spent Over KSh10 Billion on Ol Kalou Projects

Former President William Ruto’s economic adviser, Moses Kuria, says the government has spent more than KSh10 billion on development projects in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County.

Kuria made the remarks on Sunday, August 9, while discussing the government’s development programmes in the area.

He said the money was not from a new budget created specifically for Ol Kalou. Instead, he explained that the projects were implemented through existing national government programmes.

“We did not put any new budget in Ol Kalou. These are existing government programs. We brought them projects worth more than KSh10 billion,” Kuria said.

Kuria also dismissed concerns that Ol Kalou had received too many development projects, questioning whether an area could have “too much development.”

Kuria speaks about opposition to projects

The former Cabinet Secretary said the government had learnt lessons from what happened in Ol Kalou, including the need to consider the views of residents before implementing development projects.

He claimed that some people had influenced residents against government projects.

“I feel sorry for the people of Ol Kalou because they have been captured,” Kuria said.

Kuria further claimed that an ongoing road project in the area was affected after supporters of Sammy Waweru removed project signage following his election victory.

According to Kuria, the contractor later stopped work because of what he described as concerns over insecurity.

Kuria says projects should continue

Kuria said he had promised that government projects already under way would be completed regardless of the political choices made by residents.

He defended his role in coordinating development projects in Ol Kalou, saying residents deserved development regardless of their political decisions.

Kuria maintained that putting development first was the right thing to do and said he had no regret over his efforts to bring projects to the area.

His remarks come as debate continues in Nyandarua County over government development projects and how national resources are distributed across different areas.
