Murang’a Governor Kang’ata Predicts Trouble for UDA in 2027 Elections

Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata has warned that the ruling party, United Democratic Alliance (UDA), may lose a lot of support in Murang’a before the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV, Kang’ata said the current political mood in the region is changing, and things are not looking good for President William Ruto and his party.

The governor revealed that about a year ago, he held talks with President Ruto to discuss strategies that could help strengthen UDA in the region. However, they did not agree, and since then, the situation has worsened.

“I shared my ideas on how we could improve things, but we did not agree. I stayed quiet after that, but now, after one year, I can clearly see things are not going well for UDA, especially in my region,” Kang’ata said.

He also explained that he has been under pressure from residents and supporters to speak out on political matters. According to him, staying silent has become difficult, especially when the president visits the county.

“When you try to focus on development and keep quiet, people start pushing you to take a stand. If you don’t speak, they question your leadership,” he added.

Kang’ata’s remarks come shortly after he announced that he will not run for re-election as Murang’a governor using a UDA ticket in 2027.

He said the current political environment is becoming less tolerant, something he believes could harm democracy if it continues.

However, the governor made it clear that he is still a member of UDA for now and will officially announce his next political move at the right time.

His decision is seen as a big setback for President Ruto, who is counting on strong support from the Mt. Kenya region. Kang’ata’s move could affect the party’s chances of maintaining its influence in Murang’a and nearby areas.
