MSMEs PS Susan Mang’eni Clarifies on Release of Ksh25,000 NYOTA Funds From Monday

The government has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that NYOTA beneficiaries will start receiving Ksh25,000 business funds from Monday.

In a statement issued on Sunday, May 10, Susan Mang’eni said the information being shared online is fake and did not come from the NYOTA programme.

Mang’eni urged Kenyans and beneficiaries to ignore the notice, saying the government will officially announce the dates for the release of the funds through the right communication channels.

“Ignore the false updates circulating online about NYOTA start-up capital disbursement. We will officially communicate in the coming days on when the payments will begin,” she said.

The fake notice claimed that beneficiaries had completed a compulsory two-day business training and that the second phase of the Ksh25,000 disbursement would begin on Monday, May 11.

However, the PS clarified that the ministry is still carrying out business training for beneficiaries who already received the first batch of the Ksh25,000 business support funds.

She encouraged NYOTA beneficiaries to continue growing their businesses as they wait for the official announcement regarding the next phase of payments.

“At the moment, we encourage NYOTA business support beneficiaries to continue building their businesses and sharing their success stories,” she added.

The NYOTA programme is a five-year project supported by the World Bank and aims to help young people through business support, savings and job creation opportunities.

Reports show that more than 101,000 youths across Kenya have already benefited from the programme during the first phase.

Under the programme, each beneficiary receives Ksh22,000 as direct business support while Ksh3,000 is saved under the National Social Security Fund Haba Haba savings scheme.

The government also announced that county governments will waive business licence fees for NYOTA beneficiaries for two years to help support their businesses.
