Kenya Met Lists Counties to Experience Rains and Very Cold Weather for Next Few Days

The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned that several parts of the country will experience rainfall and cold temperatures over the next few days.

In a weather forecast covering the period from Saturday, June 20, to Wednesday, June 24, Kenya Met said most areas will remain dry. Still, some regions are expected to receive light to moderate showers.

Counties Expected to Experience Cold Weather

Residents in Nairobi and other counties in the Central region are expected to experience some of the coldest temperatures during the period. The affected areas include Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Kiambu, Meru and Embu counties. Night and early morning temperatures in these areas are expected to drop to between 4°C and 6°C, with Monday likely to be the coldest day. Light rains are also expected on Saturday, while more showers are forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday.

Western Kenya and Rift Valley to Receive Showers

Kenya Met also said parts of Western Kenya, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley will experience rain, especially during the afternoons and evenings. Counties likely to receive showers include Kisumu, Siaya, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet and West Pokot.

Coast Region to Remain Warm Despite Rain

Residents in Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Lamu and the Tana Delta should also expect showers in some areas during the mornings and afternoons over the next five days. However, temperatures in the coastal region are expected to remain warm, with daytime temperatures ranging between 29°C and 31°C throughout the forecast period.

Rain Expected in Northeastern Kenya

Some parts of northeastern Kenya, including Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo counties, are also expected to receive isolated rainfall. Despite the rains, the region will continue to experience high temperatures, making it one of the hottest parts of the country during the period under review.

Sunny Conditions in South-Eastern Counties

According to Kenya Met, Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta counties are expected to remain mostly sunny and dry. Temperatures in these areas will range from 11°C to 16°C at night and early morning, then rise to around 31°C during the day.

Kenyans living in areas expected to receive rain and cold conditions have been advised to keep warm and plan their activities accordingly over the next few days.
