Gachagua Accuses Murkomen of Supporting Goons, Warns of ICC Consequences

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen of knowing and supporting groups of goons linked to violence during the June 25 protests.

In a statement on Thursday, Gachagua questioned why Murkomen had warned Kenyans about possible criminal activities but had not taken action to stop the people involved.

“If the government already knew about these plans, why didn’t they prevent them?” Gachagua asked.

The former Deputy President claimed that the government was allowing criminals to cause chaos before later blaming opposition leaders for the violence.

He also accused the Interior CS of interfering with police operations, saying the National Police Service should work independently without political influence.

According to Gachagua, police officers have been put under pressure to work alongside criminal groups, an issue he said has raised concerns among many Kenyans.

He further alleged that there could be planned attacks meant to create sympathy for government leaders and shift blame to the opposition.

Gachagua ended his statement by warning Murkomen and other government officials that they could one day face investigations by the International Criminal Court (ICC) if they are found responsible for any acts of violence.

The government has not publicly responded to the allegations made by the former Deputy President.
