Germany Lists 1,307 Jobs for Foreign Drivers and Logistics Workers

Germany is currently advertising 1,307 job vacancies in traffic, logistics, safety and security through its official Make it in Germany employment portal.

Most of the vacancies are in the transport sector, with 1,294 positions listed for drivers and operators of vehicles and transport equipment. Another 13 vacancies are available in other traffic and logistics-related roles.

Why Germany is Hiring Drivers

Germany has faced a shortage of professional drivers for several years. The situation has been made worse by experienced workers retiring while demand for transport and logistics services remains high.

The country already has a large international workforce in the driving sector, with foreign nationals making up a significant share of professional drivers.

Apart from truck driving, available opportunities can also be found in areas such as rail transport, buses and trams, inland waterway transport, maritime shipping and port logistics.

Can Kenyans Apply for the Jobs?

Yes. Applicants from outside the European Union can qualify for some professional driving jobs in Germany, but they must meet the relevant immigration, licensing and qualification requirements.

Applicants who already have an EU or EEA driving licence and the required professional qualification may be able to apply directly.

Those who do not have an EU or EEA driving licence may also qualify under special rules for professional drivers from non-EU countries. In some cases, they can enter Germany and obtain the required licence and professional qualification after arrival, subject to the conditions of the programme.

Non-EU nationals generally need the appropriate residence permit to work in Germany. Depending on the job and the applicant’s qualifications, recognition of professional qualifications may also be required.

How to Apply

Job seekers can search for vacancies through Germany’s official Make it in Germany portal and check the requirements for individual positions before applying.

The portal also has a Quick-Check tool that allows foreign applicants to assess whether their qualifications, nationality and professional background may meet Germany’s requirements.

Applicants should carefully check each vacancy because requirements such as driving experience, language ability, qualifications, licensing and immigration status can differ from one job to another.
