Another Shakahola in Kitui? Fear as More Bodies Are Found in Suspected Mass Grave in Mwingi

Fear has gripped residents of Mwingi Town in Kitui County after four more bodies were recovered from a suspected mass grave, adding to a string of disturbing discoveries in the area.

Detectives and forensic experts visited the scene on Tuesday, June 9, where they carried out an exhumation exercise and recovered four bodies that were in different stages of decomposition.

The latest discovery comes just a day after another dismembered body was found and about a month after two other mutilated bodies were discovered in the same area.

Residents say the repeated incidents have left many people living in fear. Some suspect that the victims may have been killed elsewhere before their bodies were dumped and buried near Kasina Primary School.

“It seems people are being killed in unknown places and their bodies dumped near the town,” said one resident, Morris Kinyatta.

Locals have also raised concerns over how the bodies were buried, saying they appeared to have been carefully placed underground, increasing fears that a criminal group could be behind the killings.

Kitui Woman Representative Irene Kasalu called for speedy investigations, saying residents are worried because previous cases have not been solved.

She urged security agencies to strengthen security in Mwingi and identify the victims as quickly as possible.

Meanwhile, Mwingi Central Police Commander Anthony Maina asked families with missing relatives to report to the Mwingi Central Police Sub-County Headquarters.

Police said investigations are ongoing, while the bodies recovered from the site have been taken to Mwingi General Hospital Mortuary for identification and postmortem examinations.

The shocking discoveries have sparked fears among residents, with many demanding answers from authorities as investigators continue to process the scene.
