Kenya Railways Announces Training Programme Ahead of Mass Hiring: How to Apply

The Kenya Railways Corporation has opened applications for a new training programme as it prepares for upcoming large-scale hiring.

The training will be conducted through the Railway Training Institute (RTI) and is aimed at individuals who want to gain professional skills for jobs in the transport and maritime sectors.

Details of the Training Programme

According to Kenya Railways, the course offered is a 10-day Basic Safety Training programme. It is designed to equip trainees with important safety and emergency response skills.

The training follows the globally recognised Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping (STCW), which is required for anyone planning to work in maritime or related industries both in Kenya and abroad.

Skills You Will Learn

During the training, participants will be taught key safety areas, including:

  • Personal survival techniques
  • Fire prevention and firefighting
  • Basic first aid
  • Personal safety and social responsibility
  • Security awareness

These skills are important for anyone working in environments such as shipping, rail transport, or other safety-sensitive jobs.

Training Location

The programme will take place at the Kisumu campus located along Lake Victoria. The facility offers modern equipment and practical training to prepare students for real-life emergencies.

Requirements for Applicants

To apply for the training, candidates must provide the following:

  • A copy of a national ID or passport
  • A valid medical fitness certificate approved by the Kenya Maritime Authority
  • Copies of KCSE results or other academic certificates
  • Four passport-size photos (white background)

Course Fee

The cost of the training has been set at KSh 35,000, making it an affordable option for many Kenyans looking to gain international certification without travelling abroad.

How to Apply

Interested applicants can submit their documents through email or visit the Kisumu campus in person to apply.

Why This Training Matters

This opportunity comes at a time when Kenya Railways is planning to expand its operations and hire more workers in different departments, including train operations and passenger services.

The development is also linked to major infrastructure projects launched by William Ruto, such as the expansion of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) from Naivasha to Kisumu and further to Malaba, as well as the Voi to Taveta line connecting Kenya to neighboring countries.

These projects are expected to create more job opportunities, making this training important for those looking to secure employment in the sector.
