KPC Appoints New Acting Managing Director After Joe Sang’s Arrest

The Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) has named Pius Mwendwa as the acting Managing Director after the arrest of the current boss, Joe Sang.

The announcement was made on Friday evening through a statement signed by board chair Faith Boinett. The company assured the public and stakeholders that its operations are still running normally despite the changes in leadership.

According to the statement, Mwendwa, who is currently the General Manager for Finance, will take over the duties of Managing Director for now to ensure the company continues to operate smoothly.

The board also confirmed that it is following the situation closely and is working with authorities to understand the details surrounding Sang’s arrest.

The arrest of Sang is linked to a wider investigation into claims of importing and supplying low-quality fuel into the country. Several top government officials have also been arrested in connection with the case, including Petroleum Principal Secretary Mohamed Liban and Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority Director General Daniel Kiptoo.

Reports indicate that detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations carried out the arrests on Thursday evening. The suspects were later taken to a police station in Nairobi for questioning.

Investigators are now looking into how the fuel was procured and supplied. They are checking whether proper procedures were followed and if there was any cooperation between officials that allowed substandard fuel into the market.

Authorities say anyone found responsible could face serious charges, including abuse of office.

The investigation comes at a time when many motorists have complained about poor fuel quality. Some have reported engine problems, raising concerns about how fuel standards are being monitored in the country.

So far, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority has not released an official statement on the matter.

Despite the concerns, the government has assured Kenyans that there is enough fuel in the country. Officials say current supplies of petrol, diesel, and kerosene are sufficient, and more shipments are expected soon.

Speaking on Channel Africa, Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura confirmed that this month’s fuel shipment has already arrived. He also assured the public that fuel prices are expected to remain stable throughout April.
