Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has announced that he is leaving the nightclub and alcohol business to focus on a new spiritual path.
The outspoken politician, who has been linked to several high-end entertainment joints in Kenya, revealed that he is now in the process of selling or leasing his clubs. According to him, this decision is part of a personal transformation, as he plans to fully exit the alcohol business.
Volume Club in Mombasa
One of the main businesses affected is Volume Club, a popular nightclub in Mombasa. This club has been one of Sonko’s biggest investments, attracting large crowds and generating millions of shillings.
On April 2, 2026, Sonko confirmed that he is either selling or leasing the club. He also hinted that the premises could be turned into a church in the future as part of his spiritual journey.

Other Clubs Linked to Sonko
In Nairobi, Sonko has been associated with several well-known clubs, including Club Casuarina, which has been a popular entertainment spot for years.
Another club, Club Wakanda Club, is reportedly owned by his daughter, showing how the business has also involved his family.
Sonko also previously owned Coco Bar and Lounge and Club, a business he ran in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Millions Earned from Club Business
Over the years, Sonko has spoken openly about the profits from his nightlife investments. He once claimed that one of his top clubs could generate between KSh 10 million and KSh 30 million in a single weekend.
He also said that his clubs could bring in about KSh 4 million per week, showing how profitable the business was at its peak.
Other Sources of Wealth
Apart from the club business, Sonko also made money from the matatu industry. He revealed that a well-customized matatu could earn more than KSh 40,000 per day.
His wealth has grown over time, with estimates placing his net worth at around KSh 22 billion in recent years. He has also displayed expensive watches and jewelry worth millions of shillings.
Sonko’s investments include more than 20 companies and large real estate holdings. Reports indicate he owns hundreds of title deeds, residential homes in areas like Nyari and Mua Hills, and beach plots in Kilifi and Kwale.
