Manyora Says Ruto Needs 25% of Mt Kenya Votes to Secure Second Term

Political analyst Herman Manyora has said President William Ruto must win at least 25 per cent of the Mt Kenya vote if he hopes to be re-elected in the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during his political analysis on Friday, July 17, Manyora said the President’s support in the Mt Kenya region has dropped, pointing to the recent Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election as an example.

According to Manyora, despite Kenya Kwanza leaders campaigning heavily for UDA candidate Sammy Kamau, the party received only about 13 per cent of the votes. He said the result shows that the ruling party is facing growing resistance in the region.

Manyora believes Ruto’s declining support is partly because he is working closely with leaders who have already lost the trust of many Mt Kenya voters. He argued that these politicians are hurting the President’s popularity instead of helping him regain support.

The political analyst advised President Ruto to work with respected and influential leaders from Mt Kenya who still enjoy public support. He said such leaders would help rebuild the President’s relationship with voters before the 2027 election.

Manyora warned that if the current political trend continues, it will be difficult for President Ruto to increase his support in the region. He maintained that winning at least one-quarter of the Mt Kenya vote will be important if the President wants to secure a second term.
