MP Atandi Warns Linda Mwananchi Team Ahead of Planned Kisumu Rally

With only two days remaining before the planned Linda Mwananchi rally in Kisumu, Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi has sent a strong warning to the organisers.

Speaking in Kisumu, Atandi accused the Linda Mwananchi team of disrespecting senior ODM leader Oburu Oginga and trying to push the region back into opposition politics.

The MP said residents should attend the Sunday rally peacefully at Owuor Grounds in Kisumu. The venue is the same place where President William Ruto launched the construction of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) line in March.

Atandi urged the visiting leaders to come with an agenda that will benefit the people of Kisumu instead of attacking local leaders.

“I want to ask our people in Kisumu that despite political differences, we should remain peaceful. I also welcome our visitors, but they must come with an agenda that helps the people of Kisumu. If they come here to insult our leaders or claim leadership of ODM, we will not allow it,” he said.

The MP further said that ODM leader Oburu Oginga should be respected, adding that he is ready to defend the party’s leadership on the ground.

“Our party leader Oburu Oginga is an elderly man and cannot come to the ground to handle such matters. I will be here myself, and those ready should stand with me,” Atandi said.

The Linda Mwananchi team, which includes Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Siaya Governor James Orengo, and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, has been moving around the country holding meetings and calling for better governance as the 2027 General Election draws closer.

The team has also raised concerns over the use of goons to disrupt their meetings and has called for quick action against those behind the violence.

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has assured the organisers that adequate security will be provided during the Kisumu rally.

Speaking before a Senate Committee on April 23, 2026, Kanja said the meeting will be fully secured but urged organisers to follow the law and ensure peace is maintained.

He said anyone wishing to attend the rally will be free to do so, and the National Police Service is committed to ensuring the event is safe.
