Oburu Oginga Says ODM Will Fight for Deputy President Seat

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is preparing for tough negotiations ahead of expected pre-election talks with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), with party leader Dr. Oburu Oginga indicating that the Deputy President position is firmly on the table.

Speaking during a consultative meeting at the Siaya County Assembly chambers, Dr. Oburu dismissed suggestions from some government figures that the DP seat is off limits. He maintained that ODM will actively pursue its interests as discussions around the broad-based government continue.

The ODM boss reiterated that the party remains committed to the broad-based arrangement that was initiated by the late Raila Odinga, stressing that the party has no plans to walk away from the framework.

“We will negotiate firmly and leave nothing to chance. Those who believed we would not ask for the Deputy Presidency should know it is among the issues we are considering,” Dr. Oburu said.

He added that ODM’s primary focus is to protect the interests of its supporters and position the party for future leadership.

Dr. Oburu also urged the Luo community to remain united behind ODM, noting that unity will boost the party’s influence in the shifting political landscape.

Meanwhile, Siaya County Assembly Speaker George Okode affirmed that Members of the County Assembly are fully backing Dr. Oburu’s leadership and the party’s direction.

The strategy meeting brought together ODM leadership and Siaya MCAs as the party fine-tunes its approach ahead of upcoming political engagements.

Dr. Oburu further called on residents to attend the upcoming ODM rally dubbed “Linda Ground,” set for Saturday. The event will also serve as his official homecoming following his election as party leader.

The rally is expected to attract thousands of supporters as ODM prepares for its next political steps amid ongoing government realignments.
