Ruto open to fresh deal with ODM ahead of 2027 elections

President William Ruto has said he is ready to work with Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in a new political arrangement ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking in Migori County during the Piny Luo Festival, Ruto said any future pact would depend on ODM remaining united, organised and strong.

The President told residents that he supports the idea of a broad-based government after 2027, but only if parties negotiate from a position of strength.

He warned that internal wrangles within ODM could weaken its bargaining power, urging party leaders to focus on unity and nationwide mobilisation.

“We want a strong ODM so that we can plan the affairs of Kenya together,” Ruto said.

Ruto added that he would also strengthen his United Democratic Alliance (UDA) so that both sides can meet as equals and form a government through a formal agreement.

During the event, Ruto shared memories of his early political journey in ODM, praising the late Raila Odinga for mentoring him and shaping his political career.

“I was Raila’s student in politics. He played a big role in who I am today,” Ruto said.

The President was accompanied by Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga, among other leaders.

In recent weeks, Ruto has adopted a softer tone towards ODM, describing it as a stable party that has survived leadership changes and continued to play a key role in Kenya’s democracy.

His remarks have fueled fresh political debate as the country slowly warms up to the 2027 elections.
