Supreme Court Judge Mohamed Ibrahim dies aged 69
Mohamed Ibrahim, a judge of the Supreme Court of Kenya, has died.
Chief Justice Martha Koome announced his death on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, describing it as a huge loss to the Judiciary and the country.
Justice Ibrahim passed away at a Nairobi hospital shortly after 4:30 pm. He had been undergoing treatment in an intensive care unit in India, but doctors advised that he return to Kenya to spend his final days at home.

In her statement, Koome praised him as a humble and principled judge who strongly defended the Constitution, human dignity, and electoral justice. She said his life reflected service to the nation and compassion for the vulnerable.
Law Society of Kenya President Faith Odhiambo also mourned him, noting his calm nature and deep understanding of justice. She said Justice Ibrahim used judicial authority as a tool to protect the rule of law and the rights of the marginalised.
Justice Ibrahim was 69 years old. He is survived by his wife and four children.
