Ruto Security Breach in Kilifi as Man Reaches Podium and Hugs President

There was a moment of panic in Kilifi County on Sunday after a young man managed to bypass security and reach President William Ruto during a public function.

The incident happened during a Thanksgiving ceremony for Youth Affairs Principal Secretary Fikirini Jacobs at Mnagoni Primary School in Ganze Constituency on May 24, 2026.

According to videos shared online, the man was holding a Bible as he moved through the crowd before rushing toward the podium where the president was speaking.

In the shocking moment, the man managed to reach President Ruto and briefly hugged him before security officers quickly intervened and pulled him away from the stage.

The unexpected incident confused the podium, with the president appearing shaken for a few seconds as security officers surrounded him to restore order.

At one point, President Ruto was heard asking the officers not to handle the young man harshly.

“Eiih! Wachana na huyu kijana!” the president said as security officers tried to control the situation.

After calm returned, the Head of State attempted to ease tension by joking about the incident and suggesting the man may have been excited.

Ruto told the crowd that the young man was harmless and was only trying to look for an opportunity in life, attracting mixed reactions from people attending the event.

Security officers later escorted the man away as the Thanksgiving service continued under tighter security.

The incident comes just months after another security scare involving President Ruto in Wajir County, where a man also attempted to reach him during a public event before being stopped by security officers.

It also follows the recent shoe-throwing incident in Kehancha that briefly disrupted one of the president’s public appearances.
