Ruto Unveils Major Projects to Be Implemented in 2026, Including New World-Class JKIA Airport
President William Ruto has outlined a list of major development projects that the government plans to implement from 2026, describing the year as a time of full execution and national transformation.
According to the President, these projects are aimed at boosting the economy, creating jobs, improving transport, strengthening food security, and positioning Kenya as a regional hub for trade, sports, and tourism. He said while at Eldoret State Lodge.
1. Talanta Sports Complex to Be Completed
One of the key projects set for completion in 2026 is the Talanta Sports Complex. The facility will be ready to host major international sporting events, including the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027.
Ruto said the complex will create jobs, support young talent, and help grow sports as a source of income for Kenyan youth.
2. Bomas International Convention Centre Revival
The government will also complete the Bomas International Convention Centre, transforming it into a modern, world-class venue.
Once completed, the facility is expected to attract international conferences, exhibitions, and events, positioning Kenya as a leading meetings and events destination in the region.

3. Road Construction and Expansion Across the Country
Ruto announced that the government will accelerate the tarmacking of 6,000 kilometres of roads already under construction across the country.
Among the key roads is the Rironi–Mau Summit highway, which is expected to ease traffic, improve safety, and boost trade between regions. The road is targeted for completion by mid-2027.
At the same time, construction of new highways in different parts of the country will begin in 2026.
4. Standard Gauge Railway Extension to Kisumu and Malaba
In a major transport boost, the President announced that construction of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) from Naivasha through Narok, Bomet, Nyamira, Kisumu to Malaba will begin.
The project is expected to improve cargo movement, lower transport costs, and strengthen trade links between Kenya and the East and Central African region.
5. Galana-Kulalu Dam and Irrigation Projects
The government will begin construction of the Galana-Kulalu Dam, alongside other irrigation projects across the country.
The goal is to bring 2.5 million acres of land under irrigation, reduce reliance on rain-fed agriculture, and strengthen food security.
7. New World-Class JKIA Airport
Ruto also announced the start of construction of a modern, world-class airport at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
The new airport is expected to boost tourism, expand cargo handling, improve passenger experience, and firmly establish Kenya as the aviation hub of East Africa.
8 .Jobs and Economic Growth Expected
According to the President, these projects will create thousands of jobs, support local businesses, and stimulate economic growth across counties.
He said the focus in 2026 will be on delivery, accountability, and impact, adding that Kenyans will judge leadership by results, not promises.
As Kenya heads into 2026, the government says these flagship projects will play a key role in transforming the economy and improving the lives of ordinary citizens.
