Thieves Steal Ksh 950K Construction Money From Professor in Runda

Police in Nairobi have launched investigations after a university professor lost Sh950,000 to suspected thieves shortly after withdrawing the money from a bank in Runda.

According to police reports, the professor, who previously served as a chancellor at a public university, visited Warwick Centre in Gigiri on February 4 at around 2:00 pm. He withdrew the cash to pay workers at a construction site located in Runda.

He was accompanied by a site manager, and they drove directly from the bank to the construction site. Upon arrival, he parked his vehicle about 15 metres away before stepping out to inspect the project.

Unaware that he was being followed, the professor had placed the money inside a bag and left it in the car. Moments later, he heard a loud noise and rushed back to the vehicle, only to find that it had been broken into. The suspects, who are believed to have been trailing him in another car, had already escaped with the cash.

Investigators suspect that the criminals may have been monitoring his movements from the banking hall or had prior knowledge of the transaction. The professor later confronted bank officials, seeking an explanation for how the theft occurred.

Police officers arrived at the scene and confirmed that investigations are ongoing. Authorities say similar incidents have been reported in recent months, with victims being targeted after withdrawing large sums of money. Police believe the crimes may involve insiders and organised gangs operating around banks.
