Former Agriculture Minister Kipruto Arap Kirwa has weighed in on the shifting political landscape, pointing to what he described as a unifying theme emerging across rival camps.
Speaking on Morning Cafe on Monday, February 23, 2026, Kirwa observed that the phrase “Wantam” has become a common thread in ongoing political conversations.
According to him, despite visible divisions, key factions appear to be driven by similar political calculations.
He noted that one wing backing Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East member of parliament Babu Owino is advancing narratives that mirror those coming from leaders aligned with the United Opposition.
While the groups currently operate separately, Kirwa suggested that their messaging signals deeper strategic alignment.
“There is one resonating factor: all of them are talking about ‘Wantam,’” he said during the interview.
In his assessment, the shared focus reflects broader concerns about political direction and leadership continuity ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Kirwa projected that the two forces are likely to reunite in the future, arguing that prolonged fragmentation could weaken their bargaining power and electoral prospects.
He cautioned that maintaining rigid positions may narrow their options, especially in a political environment where coalition-building often determines success.
He further warned that failing to find common ground could have serious consequences, describing the alternative to unity as politically disastrous.
His remarks add to growing speculation that behind-the-scenes negotiations could intensify as leaders reassess alliances and strategy.
As debate around “Wantam” gains momentum, Kirwa’s comments underscore the possibility of realignments that may reshape the opposition’s path in the coming months.
