Rigathi Gachagua Set to Meet His Former Boss, President William Ruto, for the First Time Since His Impeachment
President William Ruto and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua are expected to meet again in public during a memorial event in Nyandarua County.
The two leaders will attend a church mass in honor of the late Ol Kalou MP, David Njuguna Kiaraho, on Tuesday, April 8, 2026. The service will be held at Ol Kalou Stadium and is expected to attract many political leaders and residents.
This meeting comes months after Gachagua was removed from office in October 2024. Many people are watching closely, as this will be one of the rare times the two leaders appear at the same event after their political fallout.
However, this will not be the first time they have been seen together since the impeachment. The two leaders previously attended a church event in Embu County in November 2024 during the consecration of Bishop Peter Kimani.
Details of David Kiaraho’s Final Send-Off
The memorial service in Nyandarua is part of several planned events to honor the late MP, who died on March 29, 2026.
- Public Memorial Service: April 8, 2026, at Ol Kalou Stadium, Nyandarua County
- Vigil: April 6, 2026, at his home in Nyandarua
- Final Church Service: April 10, 2026, at St. Andrew’s Church in Nairobi
- Burial: April 10, 2026, at his farm in Tigoni, Limuru, Kiambu County
Family members confirmed that the burial will follow his final wishes.

Political Tension Still High
The planned meeting comes at a time when political temperatures in the country remain high. Since leaving office, Gachagua has been more active in opposing the government.
He has recently criticized the Ruto administration over the rising cost of fuel and claims of corruption linked to the Social Health Authority (SHA).
A few days before the memorial, Gachagua also made strong remarks, urging the President not to go against what he described as the wishes of his late brother, Nderitu Gachagua.
What to Expect
Even though the event is meant to honor the late MP, many Kenyans will be paying attention to the interaction between Ruto and Gachagua. Their presence at the same gathering is likely to spark political discussion across the country.
