Murkomen, Sudi and Kururia named in Sh20bn Runda land grab

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, and Gatundu North MP Elijah Kururia have been mentioned in a case filed at the High Court over an alleged land-grabbing dispute in Runda.

The case involves a 300-acre piece of land estimated to be worth around Sh20 billion.

The disputed land is said to be the well-known Kasarini Coffee Farm, which includes the popular Paradise Lost recreational centre.

According to court documents, the petition was filed at the High Court in Kiambu by Daniel Mwangi Mbugua and his daughter Wanjiru Mwangi.

The two are members of the family of the late Kiambu businessman Mbugua Mwangi, who died in 2008.

The family claims that influential individuals, allegedly working with security officers, helped in the illegal occupation of the land.

In an affidavit presented before the court, Wanjiru alleged that she personally saw CS Murkomen leading a convoy of armed men onto the property on April 11, 2026.

The family has now asked the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to investigate the three leaders over their alleged involvement in the matter.

The dispute is also linked to a long-standing family disagreement over control of Ndunde Investments, the company said to own the farm.

Daniel Mwangi has accused his brothers, Isaac Gichia and Joseph Mbai, of working with those he describes as land grabbers in an attempt to deny him his share of the family wealth.

However, Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen has strongly denied the claims.

Murkomen said he has no personal interest in the land and even claimed that he does not know the exact location of the property.

He also dismissed claims that he was personally involved in any police operation at the land.

According to him, any police presence in land dispute cases is part of normal law enforcement duties and is not directed by him.

The CS further called on investigative agencies to move with speed and establish the rightful owner of the land.

The High Court is expected to mention the case again on May 19, 2026.
