World Bank Meets NYOTA Officials Amid Delay in Ksh25,000 Youth Payments

The World Bank has held discussions with officials managing the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) project as concerns continue to grow over delays in the release of the second Ksh25,000 grant.
The meeting, held on Tuesday, June 9, brought together NYOTA Fund manager Augustine Mayabi, members of the Project Management Unit, and other coordinators to review the progress of the programme and discuss challenges affecting its implementation.
According to the government, the talks were aimed at improving the running of the project and ensuring it delivers the intended benefits to young people across the country.
The meeting comes at a time when thousands of youths are waiting for the second batch of funds. More than 122,000 beneficiaries from all the 47 counties are yet to receive the money, leading to concerns and questions from applicants.
Earlier this month, the Ministry of Co-operatives explained that the delay was caused by budget challenges.
Co-operatives Principal Secretary Susan Mang’eni said the government was aware of the concerns raised by beneficiaries and regretted the delay.
She explained that the budget requirements for the project had been concentrated within one financial year, affecting the timely release of the money.
Mang’eni, however, assured beneficiaries that the government was working with the National Treasury to resolve the issue.
She announced that the second tranche of the Ksh25,000 grant is expected to be released by June 30, 2026.
Unlike the first phase, where payments were made in batches, the government said all approved beneficiaries will receive their money at the same time once the funds are made available.
