Two Murder Suspects Escape From Police Custody in Mombasa After Allegedly Tearing Through Metal Grills of Their Cell

Police have launched a manhunt after two murder suspects escaped from custody at Mwatamba Police Station in Nyali, Mombasa.
The two suspects, who were being held over a murder case reported along Second Avenue, are said to have escaped after allegedly cutting through the metal grills of their cell. They were expected to appear in court on Monday.
Early investigations indicate the suspects may have used a small saw that was secretly brought into the police station. Detectives suspect the tool could have been hidden inside a loaf of bread delivered during a visit.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has taken over the investigation. Officers are reviewing CCTV footage, checking the station’s visitor records, and questioning police officers who were on duty when the escape happened.
Investigators are also trying to establish whether the suspects received help from people outside the station or whether there was any negligence or assistance from officers.
Police have appealed to members of the public to report any information that could help trace and arrest the two suspects. They have also warned residents not to confront them because they could be dangerous.
