ODM party leader Oburu Odinga gave leaders a light moment on Monday after he struggled to read his prepared speech during a broad-based government Parliamentary Group meeting in Naivasha, Nakuru County.
Oburu had just begun addressing the leaders when he appeared to have difficulty reading the document in front of him.
After making a brief attempt to continue, he decided to put the speech aside.
“Your Excellency, my eyes are failing me. I will drop this speech,” Oburu said, prompting laughter from the leaders in the room.

He then continued with his address without using the written speech.
Oburu also spoke about the political changes that have brought together leaders who were previously on opposite sides of the political divide.
He noted that only a few years ago, it would have been difficult to imagine the different political groups sitting together in the same meeting.
According to Oburu, political competition was previously about winning power through elections, but leaders remained responsible for serving the country regardless of their political differences.
He said the Naivasha meeting was also an opportunity for leaders to reflect on the country’s progress, discuss challenges and consider the way forward ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“We came here to fraternise. We came here to think about the future of our country,” he said.
Oburu later joked that although he had abandoned the written speech, he had covered everything that was contained in it.
His decision to speak without the script provided another humorous moment for the leaders gathered at the meeting.
