Babu Owino Claims He Was Attacked at Kilimani Restaurant, Says His Life Is in Danger

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has claimed that his life is under threat following what he described as a violent and unprovoked attack at a restaurant in Kilimani, Nairobi.
In a statement shared on Facebook, Babu said the incident happened on Wednesday afternoon along Lenana Road, where he had gone for a private meeting with a senior clergyman.
According to the MP, he had released his security team for the Christmas holidays and drove himself to the restaurant, arriving at around 3:40 pm. After holding a brief meeting that lasted about 20 minutes, he stood up to leave.
As he was leaving, Babu says he noticed a group of people he knew seated at a nearby table, among them Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai. Out of courtesy, he approached them to greet.
However, Babu claims that the situation quickly turned hostile after Alai accused him of sponsoring social media attacks against his wife. The MP said he calmly denied the claims, insisting that he does not know Alai’s wife and has never attacked women for political reasons.
“I respect women and I don’t drag family members into politics,” Babu stated.
The Embakasi East MP alleged that the MCA then became aggressive, pushed him, pulled out a gun, and hit him on the chest and jaw with it, shocking other customers in the restaurant.
Babu said he tried to calm the situation and stood his ground as another person stepped in to separate them. Although things appeared to cool down briefly, the MP claims the MCA again turned hostile and poured a glass of water on his face as onlookers watched.
Fearing the situation could turn violent, Babu said he immediately left the restaurant and went straight to Kilimani Police Station, where he recorded a statement.
The MP described the incident as a serious threat to his life, adding that the attack was politically motivated. He called on security agencies to carry out investigations and take legal action.
Babu further claimed that this incident is part of a pattern of harassment and threats he has faced since the death of ODM leader Raila Odinga’s longtime ally, Baba. He recalled being attacked by goons during a burial in Siaya, saying he braved the danger out of respect and love.
“As leaders, we should set an example. Our calm should never be mistaken for fear,” Babu said, adding that he will always defend his life, dignity, and the rule of law.
