Britam Group Chairman Kuria Muchiru Passes Away

Britam Holdings PLC has announced the passing of its Group Board Chairman, Kuria Muchiru, following a brief illness. The company confirmed the news in a statement on Thursday evening.
“The Board of Directors and Management of Britam Holdings PLC is deeply saddened to announce the passing of our Group Board Chairman, Mr. Kuria Muchiru, today, March 19, 2026, after a short illness,” the statement read.
Muchiru joined Britam in August 2021 as a Non-Executive Director and was appointed Board Chairman in December of the same year. During his leadership, he guided the company through a critical period, overseeing operations across seven African countries and supporting services such as life, health, and general insurance, retirement planning, asset management, and property investment.
He was recognized for strengthening governance, restoring stakeholder confidence, and driving the company’s growth both in Kenya and the region. Colleagues described him as a leader of wisdom, integrity, and genuine care for those around him.
“On behalf of the entire Britam family, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of working with him. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” the company added.
Kuria Muchiru held a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Nairobi and was a Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K). He began his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers in 1983, serving for over 35 years in senior advisory roles. He later transitioned into boardroom leadership, including as Chairman of Kenya Wine Agencies Ltd, and held multiple non-executive positions in finance, hospitality, and investment sectors.
