Driver Arrested in Migori After Trailer With Bhang Worth KSh 34 Million Falls Into River

Police officers in Rongo, Migori County, have arrested a 52-year-old man after the trailer he was driving plunged into River Kuja on April 24, 2026.

The driver, identified as Samson Ayiera Chacha, was rescued from the scene with serious injuries. He is currently receiving treatment at Migori County Referral Hospital, where he remains under police watch.

During the recovery operation, the trailer, registration number KBS 548H, was removed from the river and taken for inspection at Kamagambo Police Station.

After examining the vehicle, police discovered 1,137.8 kilograms of bhang hidden inside. The illegal drugs are estimated to be worth around KSh 34.1 million.

Investigations into the incident are still ongoing as police continue to establish the source and intended destination of the consignment.
