Junet Mohamed Explains How Uhuru and His Brother Contributed to Raila’s 2022 Loss

Suna East MP Junet Mohamed has opened up on what he claims really happened during Raila Odinga’s 2022 presidential campaign, accusing former President Uhuru Kenyatta and his brother Muhoho Kenyatta of mismanaging campaign money meant for election agents.

Junet was responding to claims made by ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, who accused him of failing to forward funds to the party and leaving Azimio election agents unpaid during the last General Election.

Junet Points Finger at Uhuru and Muhoho

In a strong statement, Junet said the money meant to pay election agents was released by Uhuru Kenyatta but handed to his brother, Muhoho Kenyatta, instead of ODM officials.

According to Junet, Muhoho then appointed a man identified as Patrick Mburu to oversee the recruitment and payment of agents.

“Uhuru gave the money to his brother Muhoho, who then brought in Patrick Mburu to run the agents’ programme,” Junet claimed.

He added that Mburu presented himself as an IT expert but is a close aide of Uhuru Kenyatta. Junet further alleged that Mburu had recently traveled abroad with Uhuru Kenyatta and Kalonzo Musyoka, indicating he was deeply involved in top campaign matters.

Junet also claimed that Muhoho operated from a private office in Westlands that was off-limits even to Raila Odinga, where key campaign decisions were allegedly made.

The Minority Leader in the National Assembly said once Uhuru and Muhoho took charge of the agents’ programme, Raila Odinga was left without agents in crucial regions such as Mt Kenya and parts of Luo Nyanza.

Junet insisted he has always remained loyal to Raila Odinga, saying his appointment as Minority Leader proves his long service and commitment to ODM.

He challenged Uhuru Kenyatta, Muhoho Kenyatta, Patrick Mburu, and ODM SG Edwin Sifuna to explain how the election agents’ money was handled openly.

“These are facts. Let them come out and deny them if they are not true,” Junet said.

Sifuna Accuses Junet of ‘Eating’ Campaign Money

The dispute started after Edwin Sifuna spoke at a funeral in Murang’a County on January 3, 2026, where he defended Uhuru Kenyatta’s financial support to Raila Odinga’s campaign.

During the burial of Alice Wangari Gakuya, the mother of Embakasi North MP James Gakuya, Sifuna accused Junet of receiving campaign funds but failing to forward all of it to ODM.

Sifuna alleged that Junet kept part of the money for himself instead of paying election agents, leading to unpaid or absent agents in many areas.

“When did Uhuru’s money become bad? You were taking it and not bringing all of it to the party,” Sifuna said, accusing Junet of benefiting personally from the funds.

He further claimed that Raila Odinga would have won the election if the agents had been paid properly.
