Speaking during a Christmas gathering, Kalonzo’s tone was reflective yet defiant. While calling for peace, unity, and justice, he did not shy away from what appeared to be a spiritual and political awakening rallying cry: “Let us pray for the courage to do what is right, and make the Ruto regime ‘wantam’.”

The use of the Swahili slang “wantam” loosely translated as “feel the heat” or “face the consequences” sent shockwaves across the political landscape.

It instantly sparked a flurry of interpretations online, with some Kenyans applauding the former VP for finally shedding his usual diplomatic tone, and others accusing him of inciting subtle unrest.

Political analysts argue that Kalonzo’s message, delivered under the banner of faith, is more than just seasonal rhetoric.

“This is a declaration of resistance couched in religious language but clearly aimed at galvanizing public discontent,” said a Nairobi-based political commentator.

While Kalonzo did not name President Ruto directly, the context of his statement left little room for ambiguity. The Wiper leader has in recent months voiced strong opposition to the Kenya Kwanza government, criticizing what he termed “economic cruelty” and “constitutional disregard.”

In his message, Kalonzo also reminded Kenyans that silence in the face of oppression is complicity. “Courage,” he said, “is not found in the absence of fear, but in standing for what is just even when it’s unpopular.”

The Ruto administration has yet to officially respond to Kalonzo’s remarks, but insiders hint at growing concern over the opposition’s increasingly bold tone ahead of 2027.

Whether it was a Christmas prayer, a political prophecy, or a warning shot cloaked in faith Kalonzo’s message has left the country asking: What exactly is he preparing Kenyans for?
