A police officer based at Ngoni Police Post in Makueni County is being sought by authorities after he was allegedly caught growing bhang within the police residential area.
The officer, identified as Police Constable Ramadhan Mwiti Nassir, reportedly escaped from fellow officers who had moved in to arrest him. Police say he has remained at large as investigations continue.
According to an official police report, the incident was recorded under OB 05/22/2/2026 at Ngoni Police Post, which operates under Mbumbuni Police Station in Mbooni East Sub-county.
The operation followed intelligence from the Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) Ngoni, who indicated that the officer had allegedly planted bhang outside his house within the police lines.
Dramatic escape during arrest attempt
A team made up of the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Mbumbuni and officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) visited the scene to verify the claims and take action.
However, the situation took a dramatic turn.
Police reports indicate that as officers prepared to uproot the suspected bhang plants, Nassir allegedly pulled out the plants himself, wrapped them in a piece of cloth and attempted to flee.
Efforts by his colleagues to restrain him were unsuccessful as he broke free and ran toward a nearby bush.
The escape was reportedly captured in a viral video showing officers struggling with the suspect before he sprinted away. Shouts can be heard as the officers pursued him, but he managed to disappear.
During the chase, the officer allegedly dropped one stem of the suspected bhang plant, which was recovered and preserved as evidence.
