Oburu Odinga Vows to Take Gachagua to Court

Oburu Odinga has threatened to take former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to court over claims that he was “bought” by the State.
Speaking during the ODM youth convention held in Nairobi, the party leader strongly dismissed the allegations and said those making such claims must be ready to prove them in court.
Oburu said he will not allow leaders from the opposition to continue spreading what he called false and unverified claims about him and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.
“Even if they continue attacking us, we are moving forward. One of them has been saying that Oburu was bought. I will take him to court so that he can explain how much I was allegedly bought for. I cannot be bought,” he said.
The ODM boss also defended the party’s working relationship with President William Ruto’s UDA, saying the decision was strategic and aimed at strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 General Election.
According to Oburu, ODM remains one of the biggest political parties in the country and cannot be taken over by any other party.
“Our party will continue growing stronger. It is too big to be swallowed. If anyone tries to swallow it, their stomach will burst,” he said.
Although Oburu did not directly mention Rigathi Gachagua by name, the former Deputy President has in recent days accused President Ruto of buying ODM leaders, including Oburu and party chairperson Gladys Wanga.
Speaking at a recent rally in Kiambu County, Gachagua claimed that the President had a wider plan to weaken and eventually finish ODM.
His remarks come at a time when cracks are beginning to emerge within the broad-based political arrangement between ODM and UDA.
The two parties have recently differed on how they should approach the 2027 elections, especially on the issue of zoning in ODM strongholds.
ODM leaders want certain regions reserved for their candidates, while UDA insists that every party should be free to field candidates in all the 47 counties.
The political tension is expected to shape the country’s political landscape as leaders begin early preparations for the next general election.
