Suspects Flee After 34 Donkeys Are Slaughtered in Kajiado

Police in Kajiado County are searching for over 20 suspects who escaped after residents caught them slaughtering donkeys in Kichakani area, Ereteti village, Kajiado West.

According to reports, at least 34 donkeys were killed, and the suspects were allegedly planning to transport the meat to Nairobi for sale. However, their plan was disrupted when locals raised an alarm and confronted them.

During the incident, the suspects fled the scene, abandoning two vehicles and a motorcycle believed to have been used in the illegal operation. Authorities later seized the vehicles as part of ongoing investigations.

A visit to the area revealed donkey carcasses scattered along the riverbank. Some animals had already been skinned and packed into bags, while others had not yet been processed.

Residents said the criminals ran away immediately after they were exposed, leaving behind evidence of the slaughter. Local leaders believe the number of donkeys killed could be higher than what was found at the scene.

Area Chief Edward Mopel stated that such incidents have been happening for some time. He explained that criminals often bury carcasses to hide the smell and avoid detection.

Animal rights groups have strongly condemned the act, warning that illegal donkey slaughter is becoming more common in parts of Kajiado County. Public health officials have also urged residents to stay alert and report suspicious activities to the authorities.

Police investigations are ongoing as efforts continue to track down the suspects.
